Yesterday, I attended an interesting event at ITC Central Mumbai. The occasion was to honor most powerful woman in Indian Business, the event organised by Business Today. Not long ago, role of woman in Indian Business was no different from any other walk of life, ceremonial, decorational or merely a shadow of her successful husband . Not anymore! Wine is comparatively new in our country and its consumption is fairly low comparing to other spirits and drinks. Initially commercial wine making started by Grovers in Banglore as climate of that area was very much suitable to vineyards. But the real thrust came from Nasik area of Maharasthra where number of winemakers are active. If you look in terms of quantity and range than Sula is the market leader. Its not that our people in ancient age and time were unaware of wine. I remember my own great grandfather as well as grandfather use to prepare wine in authentic traditional way. They use to procure grapes from Chaman, an area now in Afganistan, very well known in the past for quality vineyards. Its really very heavy down pour in the city from last 4-5 days. Most of the time you can feel rain drops falling down, some time very gently some time slashing from all sides, thus making your umbrella meaningless. In this backdrop, I had occasion today to attend a wonderful musical programme at Lokhandwala garden in Andheri area. It was performed by Dada Saheb Falke Award Winner music director Kumar Sonik and his team. With splash of rain flowed some wonderful film songs based on the theme of Savan Ke Geet. The crowd was mixed, old as well young, but the songs were mostly from fifties, sixties when melody was queen, not surprising, in the time of discos, raves, mixes, remixes the young generation was singing with the performers.
