Icon of national unity : Hindi Film Songs

Its really very heavy down pour in the city from last 4-5 days.
Most of the time you can feel rain drops falling down, some time very gently some time slashing from all sides, thus making
your umbrella meaningless.
In this backdrop, I had occasion today to attend a wonderful musical programme at Lokhandwala garden in Andheri area.
It was performed by Dada Saheb Falke Award Winner music director Kumar Sonik and his team. With splash of rain flowed some wonderful film songs
based on the theme of Savan Ke Geet.
The crowd was mixed, old as well young, but the songs were mostly from fifties, sixties when melody was queen, not surprising, in the time of
discos, raves, mixes, remixes the young generation was singing with the performers.
Barsat main hum se mile tum Tum se mile hum Barsat main, Rimjhim ke geet savan gaye , Jindgi bhar nahin bhulegi voh barsat kee raat, Savan ka mahina pavan kare sor,
Pyar hua ikrar hua hai, O hansini kahan ud chali are some of the samples of immortal songs sung.
What compelled me to think seriously that Hindi film songs from the past have magical power to bring entire country under one umbrella at a time when all other national icons are falling apart and people started talking first about their religion, region or ethnic interests.
Independence day is almost a fortnight from now, but I salute all those lyricists, composers and singers who have created this magic called Hindi Film Songs, despite their age they are still fresh, compelling and capable of weaving magic which binds our nation together.
Nobody will forget these anthems !
