Agrigento City in Sicily is Having Footprint of Legendary Icarus

Agrigento city in Sicily province of Italy is one of the best places to visit.  It is famous for the iconic Valley of Temples.
Here a statue of Greek mythology Character Icarus, crafted in bronze and located in front of the Temple of Concordia. Icarus was son of Daedalus, a famous architect and inventor. Story goes like this : Daedalus, created a unique palace for King Minos. King kept him and his family as his captive in the same palace  so that he may not construct such a beautiful palace for any other King. To escape from palace, Daedalus designed wings made of feathers and wax to escape from Crete in an attempt to fly. He first asked Icarus to fly but warned him not to soar too high . Icarus out of sheer thrill soared close to the sun, with the result the wax melted, causing his wings to fail. Icarus plummeted to the earth.
The statue in front of temple of Concordia captures that dramatic moment, with Icarus depicted in a fallen state, devoid of wings, arms, and legs. Its size and the powerful imagery of the fall make it one of the most striking sculptures in the region.
The statue, placed near the Temple of Concordia—is one of the best-preserved ancient Greek temples in the world—adds to the site’s historical significance. It is believed that the Temple was built in the 5th century BCE, is renowned for its remarkable preservation, standing as a testament to the grandeur of ancient Greek architecture. The juxtaposition of the Icarus statue and the Temple creates a vivid representation of Greek mythology and its lasting cultural influence.
Today, the Icarus statue, with its impressive scale, attracts visitors and reminds the rich archaeological heritage of Agrigento.
