Goods Transportation : Disruption In Offing

Uber disrupted taxi business world over few years back. it is now very easy to find quick option of getting a car on hire from standard to luxury , or if you are traveling with family or heavy suitcases, you may choose an SUV or a van. Now the similar disruption is not far away in goods transportation sector. And by the way Kenya shown a way. An App for goods transport !

Lori Systems was co-founded in 2016 to simplify the fragmented and notoriously inefficient trucking industry.

The relative cost of moving goods in East Africa happens to be  one of the highest in the world, leading to up to 75% of a product cost's going to logistics (compared to 6% in America).
Lori Systems enables the logistics space to operate at an order of magnitude more efficiently than it does today.

Higher efficiency through
Lori Systems has been demonstrated to drive costs down which, in turn is expected to create new jobs & stimulate overall economic development in a tangible way.

Josh Sandler is one of the co-founder and CEO, he was an investment banker, he says that the company has built a marketplace that allows for better utilization of assets through the fusion of an extensive on-the-ground operations team, advanced technology and exceptional customer service. We give companies peace of mind through visibility and a commitment to on-time delivery.
Lori Systems provides long-haul transport solutions to manage the three core areas of logistics:
Process. People, Technology,
thus allowing users to focus on their core business.

While
Lori Systems provides transport, what we uniquely provide to the market is real-time information and optimization which is used to make informed decisions (to reduce inefficiencies) and increase the utilization of trucking assets - all with the objective of lowering the costs of goods in Africa.

Sandler remembers when he was researching in 2016 the sector, he once drove with a lorry on the 13 hour slog from Mombasa to Nairobi, discovering that trucks were making only one such trip in a week ! He says that lori drastically cut the wasted time. Now whenever a cargo is ready it is first come, first served, if the truck is delayed due to any reason, an alternative is managed.

As the alternative transport system is not robust in African continent, the truck is still king. A huge amount of goods cris-crosses the continent, from farms to the cities and from factories and ports to the vast interior, and it still goes by lorry.

Use of software helped to establish order to apparent real life chaos, but it is just beginning because trucking faces the challenges of strikes, violence as well as robbery. Not only that the truckers are not tech-savvy. So Lori Systems
is working very hard against these odds. With the result it won Innovation Award - East Africa Maritime Awards (EAMA) last year. The company escalated its operations in Uganda, Ethiopia and Ghana.

It is true that Lori Systems's technology  is not seamless, but is working, Sandler says that running a tech company iin African space is always a challenge.

It has shown a way to other continents also.
