Fighting Pollution ecoBirdy Way.
Today, I was today at London Design Fair and met ecoBirdy team from Antwerp, who has done some breakthrough in controlling plastic pollution.
Environmental issues related to plastic pollution has received global concern in recent years , but ecoBirdy’s studies and researches started already many years ago. During these researches they found out that toy  sector uses plastic most intensively. And most of it is not recycled. There were many questions and challenges came up: Why is it so difficult to recycle plastic toys? How to change this? Is it possible to improve the recycling process with today’s technology? Joris also gives some insights into the technical development of the recycling process.
And then the highlight, the result of their efforts of more than two years of researches and hard work: They made chair Charlie - entirely made of recycled plastic – Despite all difficulties the team ecoBirdy has succeeded in transforming discarded plastic toys into beautiful kid-sized design furniture pieces.
Their  process starts by collecting, sorting, cleaning and grinding old and unused toys. once separated into colors, the flakes are transformed into a single item with a speckled look. rounded edges and a smooth silky surface result in furniture pieces that are pleasant to touch and easy to clean.
Another interesting item I saw on display Rhino,  the lamp casts a soft, glowing light that brings a special atmosphere into kids’ rooms as well as any other spaces.
