Spy Valley Winery : Clandestine Mission In Marlborough
Spy Valley Winery : clandestine mission In Marlborough
Marlborough Region in New Zealand, is a real beauty, sunshine, an arresting, picturesque and geographically diverse setting. And in lifestyle choices, making this one strikingly unique place to be.
It is a home to wine making, in a region celebrated for its increasing depth of varieties.
Spy Valley Winery is on Lake Timara Road, Blenheim. The 1990s were a time of discovery and courage in Marlborough region. Deep in the Waihopai Valley, Bryan and Jan Johnson established 180 hectares of estate vineyards on land considered too hard, too dry and too unfertile for wine.
It was a venture that started with a passion for the land. This pioneering spirit established one of New Zealand’s most successful family-run wineries, now exporting eight varietals to 35 countries.
The best part of this winery is its commitment to the land and to the people who tend it . The owners still feel themselves simply farmers at heart, nurturing soil and vine to cultivate the complexities in the variety of wines.
Owners have created a sense of spy thriller around here, deep in the bewitching valley. Perhaps it comes with being named for close proximity to the spy base down the road, but apart from that the owners have created an element of mystery.
Perhaps it’s because the winery always keeps searching for the best of the best to produce exceptional wine. May be because managing eight varieties of grapes takes a great deal of knowing the land, the environment and climate, and in the past we’ve classified these traditions.
The James Bond memorabilia and morse code on the bottles keeps a local theme alive. The most important part -- the wine -- are simply delicious.
A lot of credit for exceptional quality goes to the wine maker Wendy Stuckey. She is an internationally acclaimed winemaker whose career has taken her all over the world. Wendy was first trained as a radiographer than switched careers and enrol at Roseworthy Agricultural College to learn about wine.
When it comes to Wendy’s wine making approach, she strongly believes the wines must show a sense of place
I will recommend their Sustainably Crafted Sauvignon Blanc 2018. : It is fabulously fruited and lifted on the nose showing feijoa, kiwifruit, rock-melon and lime peel characters, leading to a succulent palate that is intensely flavorsome. The wine offers terrific fruit purity, finishing long and delectable.
