Deschutes Brewery : Favorite Of Pub Crawlers In Portland

When it comes to pub crawling in Portland, Deschutes Brewing is a classy stop to regroup and recharge in the Pearl District Area.It is around 1.2 mile from Hilton Downtown where we were staying during a recent vacation. Barrels of beer decorate the large dining room, which also features stone walls, distressed wood and other rustic design touches. With more than a dozen taps pouring the usual suspects along with a collection of seasonal and experimental brews . The bar has something for every beer lover. The kitchen serves fresh, sustainable fare, including  options for vegetarians like me. Non-veg among our group enjoyed their beer-battered halibut and  the smoked brisket.
The steamed clams with a side of sweet potato fries also keep you going until your next destination.

.
The Brewery is originally from The Bend in Oregon State . It had a very modest beginning as small brew pub in 1988 in downtown and named it after the Deschutes river. Owner Gary Fish emphasized a community-based approach to his business. The brewery sold 310 barrels of beer in its first year. Not bad for a startup. By 1992, sales swelled up to 3,954 barrels. Unable to keep up with demand in its original facility, the brewery expanded to a 16,000-square-foot production brewery in 1993 with the ability to brew in 50-barrel batches. Deschutes now has a brewing facility with two brew houses, distributing its beer in 28 states of USA. In 2012, the brewery further expanded its brewing facility by 6,750 square feet , adding 105,000 barrels of production capacity ! New equipments installed contain a water reuse system, saving the company thousands of gallons of water per year, as well as a carbon di-oxide capture system from the fermentation process,  which  decrease waste to the city sewer system.

Pearl District micro-brewery and pub was opened in Portland in the year May 2008. Soon it has become big attraction for beer crawlers  in Portland. This rustic downtown brewpub showcases nearly 20 different Deschutes beers, from classics to limited releases. The Swivelhead Red IRA from Deschutes Brewery reached #1 on the list of the top 100 beers of all time by the Cold Cans podcast.
