People should do away with politicians who speak without dignity

In the recently years, a new kind of political class has emerged in India, who can talk any thing below dignity, offending sensibility of people.

We are in 21st century, the buz is all about being modern but such kind of politicians are not anomaly, not exception, they are inevitable in a place where politics is one profession, where being in power is being out of the decencies and dignities of a social animal.

The list is long, it appears to me that it is now an age of Jitan Ram Manjhi,  Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, Kalyan Banerjee, Mamta Banerjee. Gone are the days when people in opposition benches set certain bench marks, like of Prakash Veer Shastri, Firoze Gandhi, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia, Acharya Kriplani are not seen any more.

Manjhi is presently Chief Minister of Bihar, comes from Maha Dalit community, he continues to pop up on front pages for all the right reasons from his perspective, which happens to be different from yours or mine. He alone knows what would happen to the women of her state when their husbands leave them behind and travel to other states for work. He is lone person in India who knows that upper caste people are foreigners, only Dalits and Tribals are the indian. He has so pen in the past on other varied topics as varied as corruption to martial morality of his son drawn instant media attention. You may say it is Bihar who has produced a socialist leader like Lalu Prasad Yadav, where his long reign there was a badlands vaudeville starring a ruler of great comic possibilities, till joke was on him and morality of the show was unsustainable even among the poorest among the poor whom he thought would never abandon him. The ruler as jester played with the mass mind, till the entertainment become too boring and too expensive to be sold. The political vulgarity is not only preserve of heartland socialists, Dravidian politicians and Indian Communists are also not far behind. There is a so called Hindutva fringe which perennially in a need of a phantom enemy, if not real it can be created overnight. Some one like Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, who is a Minister of State in Union Government for whom there are two kind of people in India one those the descendants of Ram and illegitimate others, mind it she is part of the team Modi which promises to transform India into a modern country. We have our own Mamta Banerjee, who some time forget that she is a chief minister or a opposition MLA, she is there to serve you 'Bamboo' Obscenity. Manjhi and Sadhvi and few other actors on Indian political scenario have taken free speech to a new low. Politics is an arena where sophistication of mind is most required, after all the people follow what their leaders say. I recollect Vaclav Havel, was a bit apologetic about being the President of The then Czechoslovakia after years of dissident and critic of power was given honorary doctorate by New York University, he highlighted in his speech that good manners are essential for politicians. A good education in political science and law may be invaluable for a politician, but that is not he most important thing, he said 'When a man has his heart in the right place and good taste, he can not only do well in politics but even predetermined for it. If someone is modest and does not yearn for power, he is  certainly not ill equipped to be engaged in politics; on the contrary , he belongs there. What is needed in politics is not the ability to lie but rather the sensibility to know when, where, how and to whom to say things.'

Decency in politics is not about class or caste, it is also not about educational qualification either. It is about refinement, about being sensitive to sensibilities of others. Professional anti elitists may argue that this is democracy-take it or keep quiet. Not really. The politics of bad taste is the sewage system of democracy, and in India it is broken and open so it stinks. now it is for people of India at large who have to summarily reject such people who try to break or open this sewage system.
