Mahamana Malviya's Mission is relevant even in today's Time - DrSubramaniyam

Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya: this name is synonym with Benaras Hindu University now popularly known as BHU. Pandit Ji had created a world class residential educational institution where most of the subjects in humanities, science and technology departments were started, he also tried to recruit the world class teaching staff and thus created a bench mark in learning. His vision was to create a dedicated force of young people to lead India in all the field. Pandit Ji also ensured that the character of the institution be true India, so he made a provision of picking up youth from all over the country, he also made sure that youth from untouchable class should also be given fair number of seats to bring them in the mainstream and also make them a part of new leader class for new India. This he created with his sheer guts and will power. When he started the project, he did not have any money but managed huge donations from princely states as well as leading philanthropists to make his great dream come true without support of Government.
Some enthusiastic alumni of BHU have created Mahamana Malviya Mission to further spread his his message and engage people in completing his dream. The Mumbai Chapter of Mission have started organising an Annual Lecture series in which it invites eminent persons, this time it was Dr Subramanium Swamy, a politician loaded with Havard and Corrnel degrees but known for his corruption exposure activism which has seen some mighty politicians like Jaya Lalitha exposed as well as punished by the highest court in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Swamy has talked about Pandit Ji's Clean Ganga vision,he also mentioned that he was instrumental in culminating a pact with Britishers not to fiddle with the flow of this sacred river and thus conserve ecology . Pandit ji has also taken up a number of social causes like bringing untouchables in the mainstream by opening gates of temples for them, crusade against child marriage and uplift net of widows. He had also faced stiff opposition from the orthodox Hindu class but he relentlessly worked on these social issues. Some of his initiatives were carried by Mahatma Gandhi. Talking from the side line of function, when asked to express his views on declaring Geeta as the National scripture, he was very categorical that there is no such need as 80 percent population of country already believes in the Book.
The function was presided over by Ashok Singhal a fire brand BHP leader who is incidentally a pass out from BHU, he did his technology technology degree there. He felt that the previous Governments have tried to sub due the great work done by Pandit Ji by dividing the university into smaller entities such as its technology arm into IIT , Agriculture Deparment into an independent Central Agricultural University and its Medical College into an AIMS. He felt that by doing so the great institution created by Panditji will loose its focus and his vision , and will be reduced to mere imparting degree institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Anand Shankar Pandia, eminent businessman and VHP activist also remembered pandit Ji's great vision and also shared some of the unknown facts about him such as that he was editor of iconic newspaper The Leader as well as Hindustan Times for many years.
Working President of Mission V K Gupta, who had been a B Tech student of the University outlined the Mission's vision.
Samir Somaya who is a apart of Somaya Group of Educational Institution in Maharashtra also spoke on the occasion and shared that his father was greatly inspiratied by Pandit Ji's vision for creating world class education with richness of our cultural heritage.
On this occasion, a number of city luminaries were present to pay respect to Pandit Malviya. Books written by Shri Pandia and Anand Manvani were released by Dr Swami and Shri Ashok Singhal.
