In the age of smart phones, when the entire office as well as entertainment world has squeezed into your palm, talking about craze of a calendar appears to be out of date. You do not carry bulky appointment diary, do not hang calendar in your office cabin or drawing room any more. Frankly speaking , with squeezing office space and smaller apartments, there is hardly any space left for a calendar, now at the most a classy painting is displayed to show your love for aesthetic and fine art.
















Younger generation who carry IPhone, Blackberry,Samsung or Nokia Lumia in their hand, can hardly understand craze for calendar. Infact, there was time when people used to start craving for next year's calendar in the month of November. They put all kind of efforts to make sure that Air India, LIC or SBI calendar come to their home as a prized possession. Those who long for bedroom type little sensual or erotic kind , used to pitch for wine or distillery company calendar.





I read with great interest that this year Pirelli celebrated 50 years of it's presence in the calendar genre. People simply long seeing glimpse of it's new edition. But it is still a craze. If you have seen Kingfisher calendar, then I may tell you that it is a very poor imitation of Pirelli. What made Pirelli so exclusive ? Its limited edition distributed among the top clients and celebrities as well as it's perception. It is always regarded as a masterpiece which celebrates female beauty, it also celebrates the complexity of an art form that has been able to transform it self over the time. With the result, a product, which is refined, sensual, exclusive having artistic and cultural connotations. I am not so fortunate to have one but I had occasion to see it for the first time in 2008 in my friend's apartment in Washington DC. Later on, for next three years I received a copy of Kingfisher calendar with a signed personal note from Dr Vijay Mallya. Despite all hung ho about Kingfisher Calendar, comparing the two I could easily made out that it was really difficult to beat Pirelli.





Pirelli is an Italy based tyre manufacturing company, known for it's quality products. It's tyres are used in formula one racing cars as well as Mercedes. The idea to bring an out of box calendar came to it's UK subsidiary in 1964, got the first shoot with legendary photographer Robert Freeman. Over in years, female celebrities such as Sophia Laren, Neomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Heidi Klum, Penelope Cruz, Kate Moss and Karolina Kurkova have graced it's pages. Hollywood Actress , model and culinary expert of Indian origin Lakshmi Menon Also appeared in these pages. It is not only the beautiful faces and some most adorable female figures but the exotic locales in beautiful Bahamas, Seychelles, Tunisia, Spain, places like Campania, Napples, Miami, Rio de Janerio, Shanghai, Newyork and London also helped to create wonderful chemistry.
