India Leading to Economic Gulami
I have been in United States on many occasions during last 10 years. I had noticed that whether you visit a Mall or a Papa Mama store, you will hardly find things with tag Made In America. Even the perishable grocery section of Super Bazars is full of fancy fruits and vegetables from around the globe. Most of the manufacturing activities are closed, many closed factories are converted into Retail Outlet Malls. So when every thing is imported from finished goods, consumer durables to perishables, a question comes to mind how that nation is surviving? It is a fact that American economy is under great strain, some how the economy is limping with the help of propriety products, branded goods manufactured in China and dispatched from there to rest of the world, this includes I Phones, Laptops, other gadgets and devises. Ofcourse, a part of funds comes from exporting wars and war machines !
Compare the Indian situation with that of America to large extend, we are also falling under the similar trap faster then them. Forget about Delhi, Banglore, Mumbai and Hyderabad even in the smaller places imported fruits, vegetables are replacing local stuff. All major International ready-made brands have also captured big as well as smaller cities. Machines, tools, electronics, electrical appliances name any thing it is not Indian.Without understanding the mounting import bill for gasoline, government has liberally permitted foreign car manufactures to flood Indian market with small, medium as well as luxury cars. No serious emphasis or thought is given to improve public transport system. It is to be seen how quickly this system will crumble because we do not have innovative and fertile minds like Americans who keep on innovating products and designs and earning heavily on intellectual propriety rights.
After independence, initially the government was over protective to the local manufacturers and producers. This had created lethargy, a very poor quality control, lack of innovation and unwillingness to adopt latest technology. With the result, we the poor Indian souls were left with a very inferior product that too at a very higher price. We could only see our NRI relatives with awe coming here with branded watches, gadgets, ready-mades. Whenever get a chance to go abroad our eyes were opened wide to see the quality of household stuff and consumer durables. So when the economy opened up, the market was flooded with imported stuff in all shapes and sizes, right from jam, marmalades to any thing or every thing. Though China is a communist country who does not believe in religion but its manufacturers are moulding all kind of Indian Gods and Goddesses and flooding Indian market. This Dipawali I did not find any Lakshmi-Ganesh earthen idol for puja, with no choice but to buy the one from China.
Time is really running out, some immediate steps have to be taken. If we say that the ruling party is not serious about the threat then tell me how many political parties sitting in opposition including BJP are seriously concerned. And this foreign goods dumping in our market is happening not from few months but last so many years. Is our political class is really concerned that the small and medium size manufacturers are not in a position to combat with cheaper stuff and with the result closing down shutters of their factories? Do they have any plan to tackle this threat to the very existence of our nation ?
We should not forget that we had undergone through 1000 years of political tyranny of bunch of goons, murderers, religious fanatics and traders and now the next phase will be economic Gulami which may be far more serious.
