BEAT YOUR COMPETITOR THROUGH BETTER TECHNOLOGY

Better late then never catch word can not work in tech industry. There were many companies doing very well at one point of. Time, but are hardly around now because they were failed to hop the bus. Some failed to keep up due to funds, while others never caught up because poor judgement and anticipate the competition.

Yahoo was on a great run between late 90s to middle of 2000. That was the time when every one  who used Internet used Yahoo Messenger. At least once. It was favroite platform for instant messaging for almost everyone. Apart from simple chat , one could use 'chat rooms' , keep all the friends together and sharing files with them. Another excellent feature was video calling, though the video quality was poor if you compare with today but the innovation enabled people to stay. And then it fell to Google. Google fired the first salvo with Gmail by offering much bigger storage and bigger attachment size that too for free. Yahoo retaliated but by announcing 100 MB of storage first, before moving unto 1 GB and finally unlimited. Google trump: by providing ad free mail envi ronment, which was a  relief  from annoying pop up advertisements. Google also trumped by integrating chat in the mail, and most of the services available as one unified products. so the users just had to log in to access all the services.

Yahoo reacted but little late, but by then, the damage was done. Many users had already migrated to Gmail by then. Redesigning the new interface then did not help Yahoo much. Same was the fate of Hotmail, my first love with Internet messaging.

As the time passed by, Google started proving that it can provide a host of other services by using just one user ID right from watching videos on YouTube , looking for. Direction on Google maps, blogging , socialising, checking news, set calendar events, translation and many more. And Google also took it to the another higher level by making it's own browser.

Again, it is not that Microsoft did not fightback. It did back, it did, by very means possible. But it was too late to get the ,big chunck of already migrated users already migrated users back to Bing service. Even Hotmail tried to bring back it's old users back, I also got a mail from them, I visited them but after experiencing Google mail, Hotmail could not appeal much.

Google's Operating System was the ultimate shot. With android, Google came on moil platform as well in Sepember 2008. It had taken a huge slice off the smart phone pie even befor Microsonft could take a small bite. While android was battling it out with iOS, Symbain and Blackberry Operating Systems, Microsoft was no where on the scene.

In the last two years Microsoft trying hard for a come back, the titans of the war were already established. But the story does not end there. Google made sure that the end user always uses their services on the smart phone. the process is very simple-make the user log into the popular android platform with a Google ID and offer all the proprietary services on the device. Today, where everything is mobile, just one number that matters. Window Phone, as the last week, has a Market share of 1.62 per cent.According to StatCounter Global states  Android has 39.52 per cent.

With the Microsoft's acquisition of Nokia, there might still be some hope for Window Phone to compete with android in all prices range. But may be what it needs to do as of now is to take a leaf out of android's book and make sure it pushes out updates bring new features and fix old bugs to make sure that the user stays hooked to it. Microsoft can alsonwork on providing an unified device ecosystem  that means smartphone, PC, Tablet sharing data seamlessly for the user just the Apple way.

Yahoo can also go back to where it shown the brightest - instant messaging. This is the time where free apps such as WhatsApp allow free instant messaging, file sharing and voice note creation, and Viber as well as Skype provide all that and free calls as well.
