Why Switzerland when kashmir is here
Today at the initiative of Tourism Minister of Jammu & Kashmir Ghulam Ahmad Meer, important stake holders stakeholders in tourism business such as Nasir Shah of J&K Tourism Alliance, nazir A Tunda President, Association of kashmir Tour Operators,Manzoor Sidiq- Secretary General Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Association in J&K were there in Novatel Juhu. His sole objective was to make people feel that J&K is a safe destination for tourists. If numbers are any indication, last year 12 Lac people visited Kashmir from other part of India.
Mir was very candid to accept that Kashmir has problems including terrorism, but he brought a team of hoteliers, tour operators to assure local tour operators and media that tourists are as safe in Kashmir as in rest of India. He also emphasised the fact that during last few years situation in Kashmir has improved, this is due to the realisation in public at large that with no or low tourists arrival, survival of Kashmiri is not possible.
Besides confidence building the State Government plan to open more destination such as Manasbal, Wadwan, Watlab, Duxun for tourists. They also want to increase frequency of existing trains/ add more trains from Mumbai to cope up big rush of tourist traffic from Mumbai.In reply to a question by this scribe that why J&K Government send people from towns and villages of J&K to visit other parts of India to make them understand that how the development work in rest of India is going on, this will provide them better attitude. In the discussion one tour operator raised issue menace of horse man at Gulmarg, who misbehave with tourists and charge exuberant price. The minister asked the team members accompanied with him to see that this problem should be immediately resolved.
I personally feel that if a state government department start handling the things in such an honest and professional way, the face of India and industry can be changed drastically.
