New Dimensions of Indo American Relations
Mumbai 29th April.
Indo American Society was formed in Bombay (now it is called Mumbai) in the year 1959 and instrumental in strengthening relations between the two great democracies on earth i.e. India and United States of America. The society also run number of professional courses to make people self reliant in right from soft skills to export import management . Today Society organized its Annual Founders Day at IES, Bandra.
Speaking on the occasion, Peter Haas, US Counsellor in Mumbai outlined the new areas of cooperation between the two nations.
He recognized India’s growing role in the world order as well as in the region. He also said that America is keen to work with India to enhance that role, to work together on a variety of global problems and issues, and to continue to look for ways to prosper for both the governments. He also felt that the Indian companies doing business with America will take a role in this. American companies working in India may help in infrastructure development , providing safe water. Another area of cooperation according to Haas is the security Haas feels that both countries have been the targets for terrorism so working together on efforts to look at ways that we can counter those terrorists globally, locally.
Dr Satya Pal Singh, Police Commissioner Mumbai spoke on combatting terrorism. He said that terrorism is in mind so it is a challenge for security forces to combat terrorism. Another big challenge is global dimension of terrorism. now a days terror doctorine developed in one country , terror plot is hatched in second country, funding is done in third country, and strike is done in fourth country. So to contain terrorism, cooperation among the nations, their people and security agencies is utmost important. But only security agencies can not contain terrorism. It is equally important to develop the kind of environment where people should have feeling of equality, fairness. justice. Mumbai Police, in a reach out program going to schools and colleges to educate city's young population about this.
Noted educationist and former Sheriff of Mumbai Dr Indu Shahani talked about another exciting area of bilateral cooperation among both the nations. Now, not only no. of indian students in US universities and schools are on the rise, American students have also started coming India for studies. many American Universities have started Hindi as a subject.
Joseph Mathews, Chief of MCX Stock Exchange has made an interesting point that not only American Companies are coming to India but many Indian entrepreneurs are also moving to America to start small trade, businesses wherein many locals are also getting employment.
Keshav Murgesh , Global CEO WNS and Co-chairman of NASSCOM BPO Forum has made a strong case of outsourcing for American companies, by this way they are not only making their operations more cost effective but also paying more attention to their core competence area. He has given example of Steve Jobs, who was strongly in favor of outsourcing as he felt that putting more minds of different background can achieve much better results.
On the occasion, past presidents of IAS were honored. Dilip Dalal, the current president of the Society, was appreciated for this unique gesture.
