Urmila Matondkar gave away awards
It was sultry afternoon and mission was to cover Dada Saheb Phalke Academy's annual award function at Bhai Das Hall , Vile parle.The Academy is doing these award function since long, but for the first time in its history person of Ex President of India stature has come to be a part of award function.
Speaking on the occasion, HE Pratibha Patil acknowledged positive contribution of Cinema . She delivered her speech in English but she narrated famous filmi dialogue 'Mere Paas Maa hai' to emphasize the values given by cinema to our society. She also fondly remembered Dada Phalke and his contribution to Indian Cinema, she saw movie Harishchandrachi Factory, which tries to document life and time of Dada Phalke and the hardwork done by him to produce first film in the history of Indian Cinema 'Raja Harshchandra'. She also expressed her concern regarding growing violence and sex in movies which is reflecting in the form of increasing rape, violence cases and urged to contain such excesses.
HE Pratibha Patil honored Santosh Singh jain for his contribution to Indian Cinema, in fact his fourth generation is also active in film business. Another notable award was given to Pamela Chopra, wife of Late Yash Chopra.
Heartthrob Hritik Roshan in his passionate impromptu speech narrated the less known creative side of Ms. Pamela Chopra.
Govinda, Vishwajeet, Urmila Matondkar, Prem Chopra were some of the film dignitaries who gave away awards to the artists, directors, producers, distributers, dance director, music director, singers, stunt artists and many other technicians nominated by their respective trade bodies. That is probably the reason why Academy awards are free from controversies.
Lot of mismanagement was there, major reason that the function long stretched from 10.30 AM to almost 3.00 PM. that too without any break ! Vishwajeet came around 10.30 sharp but he had to wait almost for 4 hours to reach the stage ! Many volunteers were more keen to rub their shoulders with celebrities and reach stage to be a part of photo session, which looked very absurd. The stage was all the time full of people unrelated to the flow of event. Veteran Raza Murad with his deep and impressive voice kept the audience enthralled but when HE Pratibha patil was delivering her key note address he was almost pasted himself to her. Prabhat pandey who is the General Secretary of the Academy was not seen at the stage at all !
