RUN LOKHANDWALA RUN
Sunday morning one long for entire week to enjoy nice sleep in the bed. But if thousand people leave their bed early to participate in a short run, it is really commendable.
Lokhandwala Mini Marathon is an event residents of this area wait to happen every year, so obviously
large crowd gathered today to run for fun. Those who did not participate were on the both sides of road to cheer up the runners.
For me, it is a great event as I am running in this Mini Marathon (only 5 km) from last 6 years.
For the freak morning walkers, who are on the jogger's track every morning it may not be a great run. But it definitely provide excellent opportunity to see who are your neighbours as Bombay is a city where people hardly get time and spirit to socialise with neighbours. You may also find many of your friends with whom you meet only twice or twice in a year.
The time given was 7 sharp but the run was flagged off after 8 o clock when the local MP Gurudas Kamath and local corporator Ms Jyotsna Dighe arrived. Okay fine, I agree both these politicians have done lot of good work in the area but it hardly make any sense to keep thousand people waiting. Hope these politicians will note this fact for future reference. And the organisers should also respect and honour the participants with the equal zeal.
Another issue which should be seriously considered by the organisers is categorization of participants. One category was 45 years and above. To my mind putting senior citizens bracketed with 45 to 59+ people is grossly unjustified.
I agree that when some body or organization do some good work people should not try to find faults and ignore small lapses, but the point is if not pointed out, the same will be repeated next year. To avoid short cuts and cheating, the organisers kept tokens at the corner of SAB TV lane, but by the time half of the participants reached the spot the tokens were exhausted, many goodies bad were not containing energy drink which was utmost needed after 5 km run.
The sad part of story is half of the top Film/ TV/ Modeling celebrities stay in Lokhandwala area, none was seen in such a wonderful event. It may have two possible reasons, one that they are so thick skinned that they expect the organisers to cough up fat money to see them in the run. Second possible reason may be that the organisers might have not approached them. But it is again very sad that the celebrities expect someone to invite in an event which is for the cause of health. i am sure many of my blog readers are from film/ TV fraternity and staying in Lokhandwala, they will take some time for this event next year.
Ajay Gupta, Ajay maheshwari, Yogesh Patel, Sanjay Kabra and the entire team of Lokhandwala Residents Association needs a big applause for a simple reason that they were busy in logistics and other duties, they did not run but gave all of us opportunity to RUN for FUN.
