Impact Person Of The Year 2012 : Ambika Soni

Every year, people associated with media and advertising eagerly wait to know who will win ' Impact Person of the Year' title. Started 9 years ago , now this title is respected across the spectrum.
This year, there were 6 strong contenders out of the nomination invited by way of an industry wide poll carried through exchange4media group publications. The poll data is filtered at IMRB and thereafter filtered through stringent process. Vineet Jain, Managing Director, Times Group, Manjeet Singh, CEO Multi Screen Media, Sanjay Gupta, CEO Jagran Group, Vikram Sakhuja, CEO Designate Maxus Worldwide, and Ambika Soni, MP and former Minister I&B were shortlisted and after final voting by a selected people from across the advertisement and media fraternity on the basis of personal email invite.
Surprise of Surprise this year people have voted a politician as Impact Person of the Year 2012. Ms. Ambika Soni this time won IPOY. The award ceremony was held at ITC Central, almost everybody who is somebody in the media and advertising industry was there to witness the award ceremony.
In the past few years, there were so many threats to freedom of media, but Ms Soni will be remembered for her advocacy for self regulation and self restrain instead of government interference, despite the pressure from the top bosses. Another accolade is her pushing agenda for digitisation. Many people are not aware that she had been instrumental in establishing community radio stations across the length and breadth of country. She also tried to make fim certification more pragmatic by nominating Leila Samson as Chief of Central Board of Film Certification.
