New India :Divided by Politicians United by Youth
I ask you a straight question, what is the most heated issues between Tamilians and Kannadas when it comes to Politics?
Definitely River Water Distribution .
This is a lingering disputed issue and both side politicians fan local sentiments whenever and where ever they like, some time it takes turn, targeting Kannadas in Tamilnadu or Tamilians in Karnataka. Sometimes it turns out to be Maharashtrians against poor Biharis who run para service sector in Bombay and other major cities of Maharashtra . Targeting Marwadis in North East. There are number of such hate stories.
But against this vested divide created by politicians, a new kind of integration is also taking place in Youngistan and it should be noticed and encouraged. Social media, FM radio Stations as well as TV Channels specifically targeted to youth are doing this silent revolution.
Yesterday a RJ (Radio Jockey) at Radio Mirchi in Banglore ( I can not call it Bangaluru despite efforts)
told its listeners that most of Petrol Pumps in Chennai were unable to supply gas to motorists for consecutive third day and advised to work out of home. This RJ could visualize that her listeners in Banglore and Chennai keep traveling from one city to the other and they need to be known such crisis which hamper their mobility because of critical shortage of gas in neighbouring state. This is not an isolated instance. We have seen this kind of youth integration in Jessica Lal Murder case when youth across the borders of states supported the cause through social media and kneeled down the judiciary and government to open the case or during Anna Hazare fast mustered support pan India through social media.
So we can say that time has come when local is no longer local when it comes to this day and age of youthful mobility. You listen to any local FM Station in any Metro they do play a number of songs which are not local, from the lingo of the neighbouring states. This also answers unprecedented success of "Why this Kolaveri Di'. Youth in India had adopted it as their anthem despite not knowing TAMIL language.
Another interesting example, yesterday DIDI of Bengal Mamta Banerji and her entire political clan was dancing to the tune of Shah Rukh Khan and his Kolkata Knight Riders in Eden Garden and Maidan area of Kolkata. And by the way there are more non Bengalis in Kolkata Knight Riders !
