Babul Nath Temple SOBO : Journey of faith

It is really a pleasant surprise to visit Babul Nath Temple in South Bombay. Amid the skying touching concrete structures, it is an oasis of tranquility. In the nestle of very very old trees you can listen to chirping, humming of birds, a very rare sight indeed. From one corner of the temple you can look and feel serenity of mighty Arabian sea.

Walk around 1500 steps from the main road connecting Huges Road to Marine Drive, you arrive at the steps of temple. If sturdy and young take  250 stairs leading towards the temple otherwise use elevater connecting the ground to temple.

The moment you reach inside the old temple structure you feel that you are not a part of metropolis, reached to a slice past, rich heritage. The engraving on the outer walls, dome is intricate work of art,  the black layer on the white sandstone/ marvel is  testimony of passing time, the lord of time Mahakal i.e. Lord Shiva himself presides the place. Beauty of this place is devotees themselves. Unlike other temples, you will not find any murmur, commotion, one can only listen to chanting of Om Namo Shivay.

Story goes like this, theatre and film personality Prithvi Raj Kapoor, used to come every day for darshan and puja  till last days and had great faith in the Lord of the temple Babulnath. I do not know how religiously scions of this clan flock here.

Even is you do not believe in religion, do visit the place for its serenity and tranquility.
