STATE OF PUBLIC RELATIONS IN SHOW BUSINESS NOW A DAYS I work in Public Relation domain from quite some time. To me it is really a very satisfying to see that you build a right kind of image for your client which he really deserves ! But during last few years role of PR people has completely changed, from fixing anything to everything for your clients in trade & industry to shock fans with all kind of Jhoot ke Pulande in show business. I remember good old days when a PR person in film industry used to be a one man army, right from arranging press coverage for shooting, film preview followed by cocktail parties, advertisement in the film trade magazines, , interviews with cast, producer, director all rolled up in one army. Now a days PR function has been taken over by smart, pushy trained marketing professionals. They take good care of their client by planting stories (read bizarre) to get more eye balls.Some time these stories work some time outright rejected by the fans. Here are few common publicity route : * Link ups, breakups, catfights and star bonding. * Accidental leaks of sex scenes or songs. * Stars working as guest editor or guest news reader * six packs, size zero stories. Shah Rukh Khan's six packs in Main Hoon Na and Kareena Kapoor's size zero figure in Tashan. * Suddenly surgery of achcha bhala name of Producer/ Director/ Actor/ Singer on advice of Numerologists, the names started sounding funning because of irrational change of spelling * Suddenly news of separation of most sought after filmi jodi later turns out to be mere PR sensation * Actresses refusing lip locks, wearing bikini or objecting nude scene Few out of box stuff : * Showing Mallika Sherawat making Jalebi at TV Channels to promote Double Dhamal * Akshay Kumar had his fly open during ramp walk * Rakhi Sawant did not marry the winner of Rakhi Sawant ka Swyamvar after so much halla gulla * Amir Khan turned barber for Ghazni promotion and promoting Ghazni hairdo at cinema halls * Ekta kapoor's 'Ragni Idhar Bethi thi at rears of auto rikshaws But one thing is certain smart PR professionals have no dearth of creative ideas and with 24 X 7 running of news channels who are over zealeous to grab such masala contents (ofcourse for a price)
