Dev D Film Review

I saw Anurag kayshap for the first time last year, when he came to one of the Bioscope workshop at PVR Juhu . He admitted that he is branded as a jinxed director and the manipulative ways of Big Banners to kill his film Black Friday. I saw his new film Dev D recently, though it is really very late to write a review of this movie but still I love to write my impression about this wonderful movie which can compete with any world class movie. I have a feeling that the thought of this film is based on two real life news clippings. One is X Rated MMS of a school going girl shot by her own friend and then circulate the MMS among the entire school crowd, the trauma of the girl, her family. Second one is killing of six seven innocent people on road by a rich spoilt drunken youth with his BMW. Now weaving old Sharat Chandra's Dev Das story around these two modern day sagas with a new treatment, is the film craft can only be done by Anurag Kayshap. Jinxed level has gone , the fil...

Hollywood Naya Masala with Aishwarya Rai Tadka

Image
Pink Panther 2 Lo intezar khatam hua. Hollywood movie with Aishwarya Rai (Bachchan) is running accross USA. There is a thief on the loose and it's up to the bumbling, yet genius detective Jacques Clouseau [Steve Martin] and a team of experts like him, to find and put away the criminal. As the movie opens, it's the Pope who is in distress - he has been relieved of his ruby ring by the same felon who stole the Magna Carta, the Japanese imperial sword and the Shroud of Turin. Hence the team of detectives called in to retrieve the stolen goods comprise a Britisher (Alfred Molina), a Japanese (Yuki Matsuzaki), an Italian (Andy Garcia), of course Jacques. This rather queer group, with help from the ravishing Sonia (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) an expert in criminal behavior, jet start the humour with stunts that ideally only cartoon characters can escape from, alive!! We all know right away that they are going find the culprit, in spite of their soon-evident clumsiness, just as we know th...

Film Review : Slumdog Millionaire

I saw this movie today, in the meantime I have gone through a number of reviews, My own view is that if you read review of a movie then you see the movie with certain preconceived notions. The reviews had some mixed reactions, some felt that it is western attitude that they show only poverty, filth and backwardness of India and by the way such films goes to international award functions bags prizes also. Some liked the movie. I also fall in the second category. the novel 'Qusetions Answers" on which this movie is based is not written by a westerner but our own brown writer. The poverty, the slums shown in the movie do exist in our very own Mumbai, their is no hyperbole. But the most interesting part of the movie is that more than the books one can learn from his day to day struggle and he can win also. people have objected about word Slumdog but the fact remains that thousands and lacs of Slumdwellers are compelled to live their life like that only. It also shows that slums are...
