CHANGING FACE OF HINDI COW BELT
I recently had an occasion to travel from Delhi across the Hindi cow belt . This is exactly an area which has always regarded as one of the most backward area, the general perception is that people in that area are rustic, and ignorant.
To my surprise at a stretch of 180 km, I could find out more than 40 Engineering, Medical, Management Colleges where more than 20,000 market/ business executive/ specialists/ doctors are passing out every year and providing much needed techno/specialist support to emerging India and becoming support vehicle to growth story. Of course, most of these young people do not come from metro background, they have been raised in small towns and some even in villages. Obviously, they are well aware of the ground realities.
Comparing to the Metro cities, where even the upper middle income group families are compelled to live in match box size flats, the ordinary man on the street in the Hindi cow belt is at least enjoying pollution free air, not facing congestion of concrete jungle. Of course , the cost of living is definitely cheaper here.
You may find English medium schools and colleges in the smaller cities, Kasbah, which shows urge to change their lot.
People conveniently forget that this region, provided leadership to fight with foreign rulers when the people in big cities were busy in enjoying best of both the words. Not surprising, the Britishers deliberately ignored development
of this region. Leadership of independent nation was from this so called cow belt, they always had a fear to allocate additional funds, development schemes for the vast region to avoid partial favourable or preferential treatment. Thanks to the liberalisation of economy, which gradually allowed a new set of entrepreneurs to start new industries, businesses, projects as well as educational institutions.
