KOLKATA : CITY IN SLOW MOTION
KOLKATA : CITY IN SLOW MOTION
GRADUALLY WILLING TO COME IN ACTION
Visiting Kolkata after a gap of one year gave the same feeling. Yes, it is still a city in slow action. Be it hand pulled rikshaw, which may put humanity to shame, the roads predominantly flooded with age old yellow black Ambassador Taxis or people contended with chewing paan or enjoying surti and working in slowest motion. But this time I had a feel of some change, eight lane road from Airport to Salt lake in construction, lot of multi level structures emerging in the Rajar Haat or in the vicinity of Saltlake. This some how assure changing face of slow motion city.
But a big question is that the old Bhadra Lok mind set will allow best of the country brain to take up emerging new jobs or it will restrict to Bengali youth, who is in absence of fair play and tough competition become complacent and thus lost desire to grow.
The finest example of fair play is till now Bombay where sole criterion of getting work/ job is your skill and talent, probably this is the reason that in all areas Bombay delivers the best, the next best example is Banglore, the city which has invited not only best in India but probably the world, which has resulted in world class working environment.
Despite of all criticism, first time in the history of Bengal after independence the state has a Chief Minister who has a vision and an urge to change, he has faced all the flex in the road of development. But until the playing field will not be opened up for all rather the best in the country, this city will remain in slow motion
