Jhoom Barabar Jhoom : Keeping Desi in mind

So now some of the Bollywood films made for Desi Audience and forgetting Subsidies from Foreign Countries or co-branding A CASE STUDY : JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM Yesterday I have seen JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM. Whaat a movie ! Made purely to keep great Indian diaspora in mind. It uses the same lingo that a Desi speaks, the characters dress uplike Desi men and women, undergo similar cultural transitions as theDesi undergoes after facing the culture shocks.And of course, to make Desis Jhoom on the Indian folk lyrics/ rhythmmusical trio shanker Ehsan and Loy rapped it up with latino/rap/hiphop chashni.Probably it is first time that lounge, disco, rave,club versions of a song are also in the movie.What is really missing - a story.Yash Raj banner is now known for its musle power as well as businessacuemenship, no other producer could dare to release his film thisweek, so the Indian audience will not have any other new movie insingle theatre or multiplex.Most of the film critics have ranked thi...

THE WHOLE WORLD IS OPENED IN HINDI FILM MUSIC NOW

Recently I have gone through an article written by Luke Kenny in ‘Brunch’ on latest trends in Indian (read Hindi ) Film Music. He has tried to trace the traces of different rhythms and flavors. I agree with Kenny and also feel the kind of songs are recorded for Hindi films in the recent past, the music is heavily borrowed from Hip Hop to Rock, from Sufi to World music. In fact now our new age music directors know very clearly that the large part of the crowd who listen to Hindi Film Music is gennext and of course like in fashion, style it needs variety, experimentation and variation in music also.. In fact other influences are not a new thing in Hindi Film Music. Even in sixties Shankar Jaikishen tried their hands from Spanish Rhythms to Rock N Roll. Remember their ‘Dekho Ab toh..tumse hai dil ko pyar’ from ‘Janwar’, it was a ditto note to note copy of Beatles’ I want to hold your hand’.
