LOOK EVEN CALCUTTA IS CHANGING !
Nothing changes in Calcutta, nothing works in Calcutta, these were the sentences, we have grown up with. But my recent visit to Calcutta was full of pleasant surprises. Yes, even Calcutta is changing!
While driving from Airport to down town, one notices that a new metropolis is taking shape. Entire stretch of Rajarhat is full of construction activities, all pokhars, ponds are leveled, huts have paved way to skyscrapers, wide roads, this area will be focal point of outsourcing activities, backend technical support even R&D, Malls for many MNCs. The leftist government of Budhadev has bent all rules and regulations in their RED BOOK to woo MNCs from their dushman Capitalist US and other affluent nations.
Changes are visible in other walks of life also. Bollywood movies are no longer untouchable in Calcutta. The latest bollywood release METRO is being shown in as many as 18 theatres. Business and businessman is no more hated, the town grown new breed of entrepreneurs are seen with respect. Even the ordinary person on the street respect richest NRI Lakshmi Niwas Mittal and own him!
Gone were the days when the Hindi programmes on Doordarshn were either boycotted or not seen at all. Thanks goodness now Kyonki Sas bhi Kabhie , Kahani Ghar Ghar ki, Kasauti Jindgi kee and like serials are seen almost every home. Though very slow but professionalism is also becoming a way of life.
