Strengthening SMEs to Survive in Competitive Markets

Mumbai 30th January 2016. Indian Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) sector has emerged as a highly vibrant and dynamic sector of the Indian economy over the last five decades. SMEs not only play crucial role in providing large employment opportunities at comparatively lower capital cost than large industries but also help in industrialization of rural areas. SMEs are complementary to large industries as ancillary units and this sector contributes enormously to the socio-economic development of the country. The Sector consisting of 36 million units, as of today, provides employment to over 80 million persons. The Sector through more than 6,000 products contributes about 8% to GDP besides 45% to the total manufacturing output and 40% to the exports from the country. The SME sector has the potential to spread industrial growth across the country and can be a major partner in the process of inclusive growth. SMEs have also played a significant role in Nation development through high co...

Can Mumbai Ever Become Slum Free : Some Radical Thoughts

Image
I am staying in Bombay from 1986, in between I had short stay in Hyderabad, Lucknow, Rudrapur and many other cities across the country . But even when I was away, Bombay had always been in my mind. There is no such city across the globe which can compete with it in terms of safe nightlife, street food, vibrant festivals and above all the Bombay spirit which give fair opportunity to every one who dare to dream. But this is also true that world's biggest slum clusters thrive in Bombay, even the most posh areas of the city are next to slums. the fact remains that these slums are a shame to the Government, Netas as well as to Babus. After all these slums have not grown up in a week are two, these have grown up gradually, systematically with full patronage, blessings of these three elements - while these slums are vote- banks for Netas and  milching cow for babus and police. Slums are the places where human being is compelled to live in below sub human conditions.People are devo...

How to plan and Invest In a Smart Way Indo American Society has arranged an Investor Guidance Programme at Maharashtra Chambers of Commerce and Agriculture Kala Godha last week. The programme started with Bharat Dave's market perspective, since he works for Bombay Stock Exchange so his talk was like hand holding for the first time investor. But the real juice come from a well reasoned talk by Gajendra Kothari, who had been a personal financial planner and guide and run his own company etiga. I give you some of the highlight of his talk. He said that whenever you go through brochure of Share, Debt instrument, LIC Policy, Mutual Fund Schemes you will find a rider “ The investment is subjected to market risk.” There are hundred and thousand investors remain stay with fixed deposits of banks. But in the following paragraphs you will find that if planned in a proper way, you may earn handsomely from the market. To reach the finishing line, you must first know whe...

Secret of Mexican Food : Art of Acid Balancing

Mexicans, while preparing their food, think of balance. Of course, they love acidity in their cooking, and that's what makes it so appealing to eat. Though it's a function of living in a warm climate--the same reason Thai cuisine is also fond of citrus, it's a necessary form of preservation--the culinary benefit has outlasted the necessity. When you have something rich and heavy in your taco--like, say, hunksof pork shoulder what have been slow cooked in lard to become authentic carnitas --it is always accompanied by a bright, refreshing salsa to counter balance it. That's something that's unfortunately lost in translation with so much Americanized Mexican food: the acidity. Americans aren't as fond of it. The typical Mexican restaurant, serves rich, heavy food that sits in your stomach for hours. Cheese, beans, ground beef, all of it flavorful but nothing to set it a...
